Tear-A-Way, Cut-A-Way, Disolve-A-Way
Take Note: Each stabilizer category may have a fusible option to insure you have just the right stabilizer for your project. Yet, for most fusible stabilizers you can still wash-a-way, dissolve-a-way, cut-a-way, or even iron-a-way part, or in some cases all, of the stabilizer.
The general thinking is that Tear-A-Way stabilizers are ideal for backing more stable woven fabrics while Cut-A-Way stabilizers can be used to back both woven and knit fabrics for your embroidery or decorative stitching needs. In most cases neither a tear-a-way or a cut-a-way is used as a topper. What is a topper? It is a stabilizer that is used to temporarily stabilize your fabric from the top while protecting your stitch quality from any light to heavy textured fabric nap. Dissolve-A-Way stabilizers also referred to as Wash-A-Way stabilizers are ideal for toppers, as well as most Iron-A-Way stabilizers. Most topper stabilizers can also be used to transfer designs onto dark fabrics when a light box cannot be used. Dissolve-A-Way or Wash-A-Way is ideal for free standing lace work, thread painting appliques, protecting tulle overlays in landscape quilting or quilting art projects and for creating fiber and fabric scrap sandwiches using free motion stitching techniques.
There are a lot of stabilizers on the market. So many that even if you narrow your project need down to a stabilizer that tears, washes, irons, fuses or cuts away, you may still be confused. To help you, I've put together a list of Inspira Stabilizers with some brief information below.
Tear-A-Way Stabilizers by Inspira
Tear-A-Way - is a stabilizer that is designed to be used as a backing on stable woven fabrics. During the embroidery process the stabilizer is perforated, making it easy to remove. Very little residue is left around the edges. The stabilizer left under the stitches will eventually wash away.
Tear-A-Way Light - is a great backing for light to medium weight stable woven fabrics. It is ideal for use with designs with low density and stitch count, such as outline designs or redwork.
Fast & Easy Tear-A-Way - is a temporary stabilizer that can be used as a backing for most woven fabrics. A slightly textured surface helps to grip the fabric and reduce movement during the hooping process. This stabilizer is manufactured from recycled cotton fibers, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional tear-a-way products.

Light & Tacky Tear-A-Way - is a removable stabilizer with a revolutionary “paperless” sticky surface. There is no paper covering of the tacky surface, so there is no need for scoring the paper.
Fuse N' Tear - is a temporary iron-on tear away stabilizer. It is applied to the back of your fabric prior to hooping to prevent distortion.
Tear N' Wash - is a stabilizer composed of microfibers inside of wash-away paper. The paper dissolves completely in water, but the microfibers stay locked in the design for continuous support. It is a great backing for embroidery on towels, blankets and loosely woven fabrics. Note: Do not use as a topper or stabilizer for lace, 3D appliqué, Richelieu, or cutwork.
Stick On Tear-A-Way - is a tear away stabilizer with a sticky surface great for hoopless embroidery.
Cut-A-Way Stabilizers by Inspira
Cut-A-Way - is a soft, non-woven stabilizer with strong, even consistency that provides permanent stability. This stabilizer is used as a backing and remains in the project to support the design after laundering and wearing.
Cut-A-Way Light - is designed to use with light to medium weight woven or knit fabrics. It is used as a backing and provides extra stability when embroidering designs with light to medium stitch counts or density.

Stitch Point Cut-A-Way - is a type of cut-a-way stabilizer that is made of fibers that have been melted together rather than through the process of chemical bonding. Its unique construction provides increased resistance to distortion. This stabilizer is ideal for designs with high density and small stitch details. It remains in the project to support the design after laundering and wearing.
Stitch Point Cut-A-Way Light - is a lighter version of INSPIRA® Stitch Point Cut-A-Way. It has all of the same properties but is meant to be used with unstable light weight fabrics such as knits, linen and fabrics with an open-weave.

Wash-A-Way Stabilizers by Inspira
Aqua Magic - is a soft fabric-like stabilizer that dissolves completely in water. It provides an ideal foundation for freestanding appliqué, lace-making and cutwork designs during the embroidery process. Because this stabilizer rinses away completely, it will leave your project soft and pliable, not stiff.
Aqua Magic Plus - is a fabric-like stabilizer with a thin layer of adhesive that allows you to “stick” your fabric to the stabilizer in the hoop. It is great for small items or fabrics that should not be hooped.
Dissolve-A-Way - is a medium-weight water dissolvable film for topping or for stabilizer-only hoop embroidery (lace, cutwork, badges, and appliqués). Used as topper this stabilizer keeps the nap of fabrics from peeking through embroidery stitches and adding a flatter surface for stitches or embroidery.
Dissolve-A-Way Max - is the heaviest weight water soluble film. It is the ideal backing for dense designs and heavier thread weights stitched on heavy knits, like Ponté knit.
Dissolve-A-Way Plus - is a medium weight water soluble film that can be used as either a backing or a topper. It is great for embroidery projects like 3D appliqué, cutwork, embroidery on towels and other applications where it is desirable for the stabilizer to be removed completely.
Water Works - is a light weight water soluble film mainly used as a topper. It is recommended for use with polar fleece, corduroy, terry cloth and other napped fabrics.
Tear N' Wash -is a stabilizer composed of microfibers inside of wash-away paper. The paper dissolves completely in water, but the microfibers stay locked in the design for continuous support.
Iron-A-Way Stabilizers by Inspira
Clear N' Melt - is a transparent film stabilizer which can be used as a topping or backing. It instantly disappears when touched with the tip of an iron. It will not stick to the iron, ironing board or the embroidered area. It is great for fabrics you do not want to wash.

Whisper Web Mesh - is a cut-a-way semi-sheer polyester stabilizer that is very soft yet strong. It is used as a permanent backing and is ideal for delicate fabrics as well as light colored garments and fabrics.
Fusible "No Show" Mesh - is a cut-a-way semi-sheer iron-on polyester stabilizer that is very soft yet strong. It is used as a permanent backing and is ideal for garments and fabrics with stretch as well as applications that will be close to the skin. The translucent nature of this stabilizer eliminates the bulk, stiffness and shadowing characteristic of other types of permanent stabilizers.
Light & Soft Fuse-On - is a fusible tricot, which provides permanent stability to delicate and hard-to-handle fabrics such as silk dupioni, taffeta, satin and stretchy knits. When applied to the wrong side of the fabric, it will give a firm foundation without affecting feel or hand.
Inspira stabilizers are offered at both Quintessential Quilts locations.
